Tibetan Buddhism Meditation Center

                           Aleksander Dynarek- bachelor diploma

I am deeply fascinated in mystery religions and meditational practices, especially in Yoga and Tibetan Buddhism. Thus, my bachelor thesis design is a modern Buddhist Temple, located in Poland.

Having visited few polish and indian Gompas I had a main concept- I wanted to create space which would resonate with the same rough, silent and harsh energy as mountain monasteries of northern India and Himalaya. Local structures were heavy, made of stone and clay, like stubborn fortressess aiming the sky.

Whole site is made of concrete and stone: a clear reminder of my brutalist inspirations, Louis Kahn and Marcel Brauer, both designers of modern monuments. Place is under the ground level, in a pit, with rectangular shape encompassing the plaza. It is a monastery, so the only opened space is surrounded and isolated from the outside world nad views.

Concrete blocks like tibetan houses wrap around like massive walls. In the middle of the floor there is the mandala- sacred structure of the holy palace of enlightened gods. Also, Guhyasamaja mandala was inspiration for the main temple design.

It is calm, isolated and dark space. People who arrive there are not supposed to held parties but contemplate and practice.
